What is the JW202 Form?
The JW202 (also written as "JW-202") is the official Visa Application Form for Foreign Students in China, issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE). It is a prerequisite for obtaining the X1 student visa — the standard visa for international students studying in China for more than 6 months.
The form is issued in two versions:
- JW201: For students admitted to study on a Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)
- JW202: For self-funded international students admitted to Chinese universities
Most Moroccan students will receive the JW202.
Why is the JW202 So Important?
The JW202 serves as official proof that:
- You have been officially accepted by a recognized Chinese university
- Your admission has been validated by the Chinese Ministry of Education
- You are eligible to apply for an X1 student visa at a Chinese consulate or embassy
The JW202 Process: Step by Step
Step 1: Apply to a Chinese University
Submit your application to a Chinese university that accepts international students. You'll need your academic transcripts, diplomas, passport copy, and other supporting documents — all translated into Chinese or English.
Step 2: Receive the Admission Letter (录取通知书)
Once your application is reviewed and accepted, the university sends you an official Admission Letter (录取通知书 — Lùqǔ Tōngzhīshū). This letter is the foundation for the JW202 application.
Step 3: The University Applies for Your JW202
Using your admission letter, the university's international students office submits a request to the Chinese Ministry of Education's Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) for the JW202 issuance.
Step 4: JW202 is Issued
The CSCSE reviews and approves the request, then issues the JW202. This document is then mailed to you along with your admission letter — typically as a combined package sent to your home address or the university's address for collection.
Step 5: Apply for the X1 Student Visa
With the JW202 + Admission Letter + other required documents, you visit the Chinese consulate in Morocco to apply for your X1 student visa. Processing typically takes 5-15 business days.
Step 6: Arrive in China and Register
Upon arrival, you must report to your university within the specified date on your admission letter. The university will help you complete your enrollment and obtain your Residence Permit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for the JW202 myself?
You don't apply for it directly — the university does it on your behalf after admitting you. What you do is apply to the university, and once admitted, the JW202 process begins automatically.
Is the JW202 the same as the admission letter?
No. The admission letter is issued by the university confirming your acceptance. The JW202 is a separate government document issued by the Ministry of Education, which is what the consulate requires for the visa.
What if my JW202 has errors?
Contact the university immediately. Errors in personal information can cause visa rejections. SAJAEX reviews all documents before submission to prevent this.
